Cycle Mickleover Victorious

Cycle Mickleover ready to start the Spring Classic on Sunday 29th April

Cycle Mickleover were once again Team Challenge champions at our Cycle Derby Sportive Spring Classic, closely followed by Team Cyclomonster, SNC Lavalin and Long Eaton Triathlon Club. The team challenge competition is decided by the top ten riders in each team riding the combined furthest distance - all four teams had over ten riders riding the 160km route meaning that each team tied with a combined distance of 1600km.

It then came came down to their combined times for the KoM/QoM section of the ride which was on Lodge Lane this year. The top ten times were added together with the fastest team winning the challenge. Cycle Mickleover pipped Cyclomonster at the post although there was only 60 seconds between them. A full list of team results can be found HERE.

Our DNS Limited King and Queen of the Mountain section took place over 800m on Lodge Lane, next door to Kedleston Hall.

The QoM was won for the second time by local rider Nicola Daubeney in a time of 1min 13 seconds. The KoM was hotly contested with only 6 seconds separating the top four riders but local rider, and round the world cyclist Leigh Timmis was victorious in a time of 1min 3secs. Leigh was using the sportive as a training ride for his upcoming World Record attempt at cycling 4000 miles across Europe in 20 days - 9 days less than the current Guinness World Record. To find out more about his attempt, you can read all about him HERE.

Our King and Queen were given exclusive DNS cycling jerseys as well as a Beam Me Up Spotty Big Bobble Hat!

Our September Sportive is on 16th September 2018 riding from Markeaton Park out into the Derbyshire countryside and Peak District. The KoM/QoM is once again on Bullhurst Lane - a 1km drag up towards the Cock Inn at Muggington, so get some hill training in if you want to be in with a chance on getting an exclusive cycling jersey!

Once again we will be running the Team Challenge so if you fancy giving Cycle Mickleover a run for their money you'll need at least ten people who can each ride 160km and be fast up the hill. For more details how to enter, you'll find all of the information you need on our event page.

We look forward to seeing you in September!
