Cycle Derby Sportive FAQs

Updated: Feb 9

Will I get a booking confirmation once I’ve paid online?

Yes, this will automatically get emailed to you immediately after you’ve paid. If you lose this confirmation, you can email us and we’ll send it over to you again.

Your confirmation email contains a link to log back into the entry system in case you need to amend or change any details.

If I book on the longer distance can I transfer to the shorter distance on the day?

Yes, but you must inform us before you set off as we will need to inform the timing company so you get the correct time.

You can also transfer before the event by logging in to the entry system and moving your event entry to an alternative distance.

What time does each Sportive start?

The ride start times will be staggered so that we can get all riders out onto the roads safely.

160km - 08:00

80km - 09:00

40km - 10:00

Family ride - 10:15

Will there be parking close by?

Mundy Centre car park, just off Markeaton Lane is the official car park for the event. There is a £4.40 car parking charge payable at the Pay and Display machines in the car park. Please note that if you don’t have a visible ticket in your car, you may get a parking fine.

Park rangers close the car park at 18:30 so please ensure you are back before that time so you can get your car out!

When can I pick up my number and timing chip?

Event registration is an important process for all mass participation events. It confirms the person participating is the one who entered, that they have their event numbers and timing chip for the event and have the latest information of route conditions and regulations.

Registration will be at the Craft Village Visitor Centre in Markeaton Park on the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning before the event. At registration you will receive your rider number and timing chip and last minute updates about the route.

Will the routes be clearly signposted?

All routes will be clearly sign posted with yellow correx signs and black arrows. There will be a Cycle Derby Sportive sticker on every sign associated with the event. At each junction there will be signs before, at and just after the junction.

What will I need on the day?

Spares (inner tube, tyre levers, and pump) waterproof. Drinks bottle and energy food.

Are helmets compulsory on this sportive?

Yes they are – you won’t be able to participate without one.

Is there a bag drop at the start?

There is no official bag drop for the event however we have limited space in the Visitors Centre to store bags, should you need to leave your stuff with us. We'll give you a numbered ticket to take with you so you can claim your bag after your ride. All bags are stored in a locked cupboard.

Will there be water/food on the course?

There will be feed stations available on each route, three on the 160km, two on the 80km and one on the 40km ride. Sweet and savoury food, bananas and water are available at each station. At the final feed station (80km and 160km routes) there will also be tea and coffee.

Do not take more than you require, remember your fellow cyclist that will be arriving after you.

Will the roads be closed?

We close Markeaton Lane and the junction with Kedleston Road to allow all cyclists to leave the park and get out onto the open road safely. There is a maximum ten minute road closure at the start of each wave to allow this to happen.

The Sportive is run on open roads and complies with current legislation regarding cycling on the highway. Given the location and length of all the routes it would be impractical and inconvenient to other road users to run the event on closed roads.

I want to ride the event on a tandem with my mate, do I get a discount as it's only one bike?

Yes! Email us at to get a discount code. You will only need one timing chip but both of you will benefit from food, drinks and medals so that's what you pay for.

Will there be a medical team in attendance?

There will be a medical tent in the event village as well as an RRV out on the route.

We also have an awesome motorbike outrider, Ricky Hill, who can administer first aid if necessary.

What do I do if I need first aid?

When you register for the event in the Craft Village you will be given an emergency hotline number to phone. If you need medical assistance, phone this number straight away so that we can get a first aider out to you as soon as possible.

What do I do if I have a puncture or a mechanical problem?

You should take a puncture repair kit with you during the ride. Evans Cycles mechanics will be in the event village, at some of the feed stations and we will have a vehicle ‘roaming’ the route. If you do have a mechanical problem that needs attention during the ride, phone the emergency hotline number so we can get help out to you as soon as we can.

Is there a cut off time?

The finish will close at 16:30 on the day of the ride; it is felt that this is a reasonable period to allow for completing the course. The sweep vehicle (Broom Wagon) will be travelling at an average speed of 12 MPH. If the sweep vehicle catches up with you, you will be allowed to continue on the route but will have to outside of the event support infrastructure and without signage as the sweep vehicle will be removing it as it goes.

The sweep vehicle will be available to collect participants who choose not to complete the full course.

Will I need to train for this?

As you are tackling the longer distances, we would recommend that you get a few miles in before the event.

What do I get when I finish?

Apart from a round of applause, you get a beautiful finishers medal. Food and drink will be available to all finishers.
